QICSS receives FCC AgriSpirit grant

Just over a month ago we let the Discovery Islands community know that the Quadra Island Conservancy and Stewardship Society (QICSS) was gearing up for new activities to protect and restore our island’s ecosystems.  We are very pleased to inform all of you that we have been successful with one of our grants - FCC AgriSpirit Fund.  This grant will let us build a greenhouse and nursery for native edibles and plants.  We intend to involve community participants in the nursery establishment, propagation and growing of native edibles, harvesting fruit and mushrooms for consumption, and planting of trees/shrubs for habitat restoration.  Once established the project will involve community education outreach with a sample of some nutritious and tasty native edibles available at a booth at the Saturday farmers market. 

You can expect regular updates as the project gets underway.  We hope the local gardeners and botanists will help us out and we will be turning to you for advice.
